Academic Scholarships

Southwestern Oklahoma State University offers an array of different scholarships based upon students' academic achievements.

New Freshmen

All Oklahoma residents who are incoming freshmen and are fully admitted by the March 1st priority deadline will be automatically considered for freshmen scholarship awards.

Academic Achievement Awards are based upon HS GPA and ACT/SAT score. Official test scores and HS transcripts are needed to determine eligibility. These awards are renewable for up to 8 semesters with a 2.0 GPA.

Tier 1

$7500 ($3750 tuition waiver per semester) for up to 8 semesters.

Tier 2

$5000 ($2500 tuition waiver per semester) for up to 8 semesters.

Tier 3

$2500 ($1000 tuition waiver per semester) for up to 8 semesters.

Tier 4

$1500 ($500 tuition waiver per semester) for up to 8 semesters.

 

Students with a 28+ on the ACT or 1310+ on the SAT are automatically awarded the following:

$3200 towards room ($1600 per semester) for up to 8 semesters.

 

Official scholarship letters are sent to incoming freshmen in the Spring before their first semester at SWOSU. Please note that students may only receive one academic honor listed above. Should a student qualify for two categories, the larger value award will be given. Top Freshman Awards

For students with exceptional academic achievements, the following awards are available. These awards are not guaranteed and require additional application materials.

OK Academic Scholar

$4500 cash per year, full tuition, & residence hall scholarship. Scholarship for up to 4 years.

Resident of OK. 99.5 percentile on a national ACT/SAT.

 

Academic Scholar Nominee

$2700 cash per year, full tuition, & residence hall scholarship. Scholarship for up to 4 years.

Resident of OK. Must meet one of the following: 1) 30 ACT / 1390 SAT, 2) 3.8 GPA & Top 4% or Rank #1 or #2, or 3) 3.8 GPA and 28 ACT / 1310 SAT.

Baccalaureate Scholarship

$3500 cash per year, full tuition, & residence hall scholarship. Scholarship for up to 4 years.

Minimum of a 30 on a national ACT or 1390 SAT.

University-Sponsored Baccalaureate Scholarship

$3500 cash per year, full tuition, & residence hall scholarship. Scholarship for up to 4 years.

Minimum of a 30 on a national ACT or 1390 SAT.

 

If you meet one of the criteria above, please complete the additional application instructions listed below by the March 1st deadline to be considered for these prestigious awards.

  • Complete the online admission application and submit ACT/SAT scores, a six- or seven-semester high school transcript and transcripts reflecting any college work completed or currently attempting.
  • Provide a brief resume, including experiences, honors and high school activities.
  • Type your response, not to exceed 500 words each, to these two questions:
  1. Describe the experience which has most influenced your life.
  2. How would a degree from SWOSU assist you in achieving your career goals?

Applicants must be fully admitted to SWOSU and all additional materials should be submitted by March 1st online on the Top Academic Scholarship Award Application.

After the March 1st deadline, these applications and additional materials will be reviewed by a scholarship committee. Students will be notified if they have received one of these awards no later than mid-April.
