What are micro-credentials?

Microcredential courses at SWOSU are short-term, accredited learning credentials that empower individuals to gain specific, verifiable career-critical skills or knowledge sets. They are more focused and can be completed in a shorter time than bachelor’s degrees. Designed to provide the necessary expertise for excelling in chosen fields, microcredentials automatically elevate your status and employment prospects upon completion. The completion of a microcredential course demonstrates the mastery of a specific area or skill. Employers recognize the value and significance of these credentials and the practical skills they represent, knowing they can be readily transferred and applied in the workplace.

Our microcredential courses are thoughtfully designed to cater to diverse learning needs. While some only require the completion of a single course for successful completion of a microcredential, others offer the opportunity to enroll and successfully complete up to 9 credit hours, providing a comprehensive learning experience. This flexibility ensures that every student can choose the learning path that aligns with their goals and schedule.

At SWOSU, we currently offer both online and in-person microcredential courses, providing flexibility to suit the schedule and learning preferences of any potential learner. Our courses are self-paced, allowing everyone to learn at their own convenience while maintaining a balance with other commitments.
