82 Run in SWOSU 5K Event and Nearly $6,000 Raised for Cancer Research

Lucas Stewart and Rachel Ingram, both of Weatherford, turned in the best times during the 2nd annual "Tough Enough to Wear Pink 5K Run/Walk" hosted March 28 by Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.
The run/walk took place in the snow, yet people from Yukon, Norman, Clinton, Edmond, Canute, Muskogee, Indiahoma, Custer City and more participated in the event that raised $5,940 for Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society.
Cindy Dougherty, dean of students at SWOSU, said 82 people showed up for the race. Stewart, 18, had the best time of the race with 19:50 to win the men's overall title, while Ingram, 23, took top honors among the women at 22:44.
Other top finishers in the men's race were Edmond's Michael Leverich, 23, with a time of 20:26 and Kaleb Fischer, 18, of Weatherford with a time of 21:03. Other top finishers in the women's race were Weatherford's Stephanie Jones, 23, with a time of 23:52 and Micah Mathis, 19, of Custer City with a time of 26:44.
Prizes were "Weatherford Chamber Bucks" in the amount of $250 for first place, $200 for second and $150 for third place. Also, the male and female winner in each age group won $50 in Chamber Bucks, all provided by the City of Weatherford's Hotel/Motel Tax Committee.
Dougherty said any registered runners who did not make it to the event can pick up their "Tough Enough" t-shirts and backpacks in Room 214 of the Stafford Center on the SWOSU campus.
The most spirited SWOSU group winners were: first place, Neff Hall Resident Advisors, $100 in Chamber Bucks; second place, athletic trainers, $50; and third place, Zeta Phi, $25.

Ages 45-49: Troy Banks, Yukon; and Donna Banks, Yukon
Ages 50-54: Bud Vogt, Weatherford
Ages 55-59: Craig Mahl, Canute
