February 7, 2008
Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s Department of Biological Sciences is hosting a presentation on “Science, Evolution, and Creationism: A Discussion of the Nature of Science and the Evolution/Creationism Debate.”
The talk by Dr. Joseph D. Maness will be this Tuesday, February 12, at 7 p.m. in Room 313 of the Old Science Building on the SWOSU campus. Admission is free and the public is invited.
February 12 is the 199th anniversary of the birth of Charles Robert Darwin, co-discoverer of the theory of Evolution by Natural Selection. In recognition of this event institutions and groups around the world are celebrating Darwin Day with various activities.
Maness is associate professor of biology at SWOSU. Following his talk, a question/answer period will follow.
Plans are currently underway for a week-long celebration of Darwin Day 2009 on the 200th anniversary of Darwin's birth in February 2009 as well as recognition of the sesquicentennial of the publication of "The Origin of Species" in November 2009.
