For the eighth year in a row, Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s theatre has received a nomination for the Regional Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.
The SWOSU group recently traveled to Lawton for the state theatre festival and their production of The Drawer Boy won the Directors’ Choice Award, which nominates the production for advancement to the regional Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in February.
SWOSU students and faculty received several awards: Tiffany Tuggle, Marlow, Excellence in Makeup Design; Rachel Giacometti, Weatherford , Excellence in Costume Design; Jess Moore, Burns Flat, Excellence in Sound Design; SWOSU faculty member Steve Strickler, Excellence in Directing; and Samuel Jennings of Weatherford, Mark Henry of Cordell and Jess Moore of Burns Flat, each received Irene Ryan Acting Awards. The SWOSU group also won the award for the Best Load-In.
After all of the state festivals are held within the region, the regional committee will meet to select seven productions to advance to the regional festival. The selection process will not be conducted until December.
“It is quite an honor to receive this type of recognition,” Strickler said.
Other universities participating in the festival were Cameron University, University of Central Oklahoma, Oklahoma City University, Southeastern Oklahoma State University and Northwestern Oklahoma State University.
