Stutzman Wins OAVCC Award
April 5, 2006
Phyllis Stutzman, coordinator for the enrollment center and veterans affairs at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, recently won the Marshall Webb Award at the recent annual spring meeting of the Oklahoma Association of Veterans Coordinators and Counselors.
The late Webb was a former president of the OAVCC and a long-time staff member of the Oklahoma State University School of Technical Training at Okmulgee. The award was conceived to honor those individuals having made outstanding contributions through constructive participation in veterans’ organizations.
Stutzman has worked at SWOSU since 1991. She became veterans’ coordinator in April of 1995.
Her boss, Bob Klaassen, said Stutzman does little things that are not required, working very diligently to make sure veterans get their paper work completed and, most of all, get their paychecks.
“It is such a pleasure to have a quiet and very helpful person in the office that is always willing to make an extra effort to be of service to our students,” Klaassen said about Stutzman.
Stutzman is also very involved in OAVCC and has prepared the group’s directory for the last three years.
Guidelines for winning the Webb Award are that the nominee has demonstrated a noted concern and consistent effort toward the creation and/or improvement of programs and services to veterans and to the OAVCC.
SWOSU’s Klaassen won the award in 2001.
