Page Wins SWOSU Essay Contest

Marquieta Page of Blanchard is the winner of the recent Martin Luther King essay contest held on the Southwestern Oklahoma State University campus in Weatherford as part of the celebration of Black History Month.
Page won $250 for her essay on the “Importance of Civil Rights in Today’s Society.”
Phillip Tucker of Clinton and Tenessee Brown of Peaster TX finished second and third, respectively. Tucker wrote on “Injustice Anywhere is a Threat to Justice Everywhere” and Brown wrote “Survival of the Civil.” Tucker and Brown each won a Collegiate Activities Board water bottle and t-shirt.
Judges for the contest were Steve Ray of the Black Student Association and Dr. Les Crall, faculty sponsor of the SWOSU Student Government Association.
