Instruction Room Guidelines

Library Instruction Room

The Library Instruction Room has 15 networked PCs with Windows and Microsoft Office, a laser printer, and an instructor's PC with a LCD projector and Elmo presenter. All PCs in the Instruction Room can access the same databases available on other networked library PCs, such as EBSCOhost, FirstSearch, Lexis-Nexis, etc.

The Library Instruction Room is designed to give students hands-on training on library databases and the Internet in an interactive classroom environment. Students work at the PC's in pairs, so groups of 30 students or smaller are optimal. Additionally, there are library tables and chairs in the back of the room to do group work away from the PCs.

Instruction by Library Faculty

The Library Instruction Program provides course-specific instruction conducted by faculty librarians. The Library Instruction Program is based on and adheres to the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education. It is a progressive program, building on students’ information literacy and research competencies throughout their college career. For more information and to schedule instruction contact Frederic Murray at (580)774-7113.

Usage by SWOSU Faculty

Faculty may use the Instruction Room for library-related instruction and activities. Use of the Library Instruction Room is intended to be a supplement to course curricula. Due to scheduling conflicts with the Library Instruction Program, the Instruction Room cannot be scheduled for consecutive uses outside of library research. Please note that faculty can be "bumped" from the Instruction Room if a scheduling conflict arises with the Library Instruction Program. Library faculty will try to provide at least one week advanced notice of this scheduling change, so department faculty can make other arrangements.

The Library Instruction Room is equipped with two-way interactive video (ITV) for distance education. This technology is used in conjunction with the Library Instruction Program. Therefore, use of the Instruction Room's ITV equipment is restricted to courses and classes provided through the Library Instruction Program.

Please schedule the room as far in advance as possible by calling (580)774-7113. If the Instruction Room is not in use, faculty are welcome to use it on an as-needed basis. The key to the Library Instruction Room door is kept at the Circulation Desk. Please let the Circulation Desk staff know that you are faculty.
