Volleyball Loses to ACU

WEATHERFORD, Okla. - Southwestern Oklahoma State University raised its level of play but not enough to overtake Abilene Christian, losing 3-0 in a volleyball match Saturday in Weatherford. ACU won by scores of 25-17, 25-22 and 25-13.
The Bulldogs now 5-24 on the year and 2-6 in Lone Star Conference play will be on the road for their next three matches at Texas Woman's, Texas A&M-Commerce and Central Oklahoma. ACU improved to 20-5 and 6-1 with the win.
SWOSU's best effort came in a spirited second game as the Bulldogs jumped out to a 15-10 lead. ACU fought back and tied the game at 15 before both teams traded points. The game was still a draw at 20 before ACU scored three consecutive points and took control to close out the Bulldogs.
SWOSU hit a negative attack percentage -.029 with more errors (26) than kills (24) in 102 attacks. The Bulldogs had a difficult time against ACU's front line which ended the game with 10 total blocks, compared to just three by SWOSU. ACU was more crisp in its attack with 41 kills against 13 errors in 100 attacks. The Wildcats hit .280 as a team.
Individually, SWOSU was led by Tara Gibby who had eight kills in 24 attacks. Defensively, Kayla Bader played well coming up with 14 of the team's 37 digs.
