Volleyball Beaten by ASU

October 15, 2009

WEATHERFORD, Okla. - Southwestern Oklahoma State University was never quite able to get its offensive engines roaring and found itself beaten by Angelo State 3-0 in a volleyball match Thursday in Weatherford. ASU won by scores of 25-18, 25-18, 25-14.

The Bulldogs will have little time to regroup as Abilene Christian visits Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. The loss dropped SWOSU's record to 6-23 overall and 2-5 in the Lone Star Conference while Angelo State improved to 11-12 overall and 3-3 in league play.

SWOSU spent much of the night chasing the Rambelles who started each game quickly. ASU had leads of 15-8, 16-6 and 16-8 in three straight times before SWOSU began to find its footing. The Bulldogs best moments came near the end of the second game in which SWOSU fought its way back from a 20-8 hole.

Jennifer Naramore, who ended the match with a team-high nine kills, had back-to-back kills during a stretch when the Bulldogs won 10 of the next 13 points. SWOSU dew within 23-18 but ASU quickly regrouped and scored the next two points to quiet the rally.

The Bulldogs managed a respectable attack percentage of .182 with 22 kills and only eight errors in 77 attempts. ASU had 40 kills against 17 errors in 90 attacks. ASU used a strong service game, coming up with 15 aces to SWOSU's 1, to keep the Bulldogs off balance throughout.
