SWOSU to host OCU Tuesday
September 6, 2009
WEATHERFORD - Southwestern Oklahoma State University's volleyball team will play in front of its admiring home crowd for the first time this season Tuesday against Oklahoma City University. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. in Rankin Williams Fieldhouse.
SWOSU has enjoyed a distinct home court advantage over the last few years. The Bulldogs have long been crowd-pleasers with their exciting and enthusiastic style of play under fifth-year head coach Bo Pagliasotti. The match between OCU is expected to be no different.
The Stars enter with a 4-5 record after losing twice against a pair of California NAIA teams over the weekend.
SWOSU (1-8) gained its first win of the season Saturday with a 3-1 beating of Southern Arkansas in the Texas Woman's University Tournament. SWOSU won by scores of 25-21, 17-25, 25-18 and 25-7. A number of players had outstanding games for the Bulldogs, but none better than Jenny Naramore and Emily Walter.
The two combined for 27 of the team's 44 total kills. Naramore and Walter were primarily responsibility for the team finishing with an attack percentage of .163, the highest of any match this season. Defensively, Tara Gibby had 20 or more digs for the second consecutive match.
SWOSU was not as fortunate in its other three matches losing 3-1 to Harding on Friday by scores of 25-14. 25-17, 23-25, 29-27. In its next match, SWOSU had an early advantage against University of Texas-Permian Basin before losing in the last moments. UTPB won 3-2 by scores of 22-25, 25-22, 22-25, 25-15 and 15-6. The Bulldogs were closed out Saturday by 10th ranked Washburn 25-8, 25-18 and 25-22.
