Softball Loses Two at UCO

March 18, 2009

EDMOND, Okla. - Southwestern Oklahoma State University had a handful of chances but were unable to breakthrough against Central Oklahoma, losing both ends of a softball doubleheader Wednesday by scores of 2-0 and 5-0. The same two teams will resume their series Saturday in Weatherford with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

The losses dropped the Bulldogs overall record to 11-17 on the season and 3-7 in the Lone Star Conference North Division. UCO improved to 14-8 and 9-3 in the division.

SWOSU generated just five hits in the 2-0 loss in game one. The Bulldogs three times had runners in scoring position but could not capitalize. Laiken Lester and Brittany Strickland each had two hits and combined for four of the Bulldogs five total hits as a team.

The loss spoiled a solid pitching effort by SWOSU freshman Katie Raines who worked six innings and allowed just two runs, only one of which was earned. Raines record fell to 3-6 with the loss.

In the second game, SWOSU collected only three hits against UCO pitcher Molly Shivers. Again, the Bulldogs put runners in scoring position three different times but were unable to bring them across home plate.

Kacie Carpenter took the loss for SWOSU as she allowed three earned runs in four and two-thirds innings of work. Her record is now 3-2 on the year.
