Soccer Loses to MSU 1-0

October 23, 2009

WEATHERFORD, Okla. - Southwestern Oklahoma State University back Midwestern State down before letting the Mustangs escape with a hard-fought 1-0 victory in a women's soccer match Friday in Weatherford.

MSU's Lindsey Pritchard broke a scoreless tie that appeared headed to overtime when she sent a shot into the SWOSU goal in the game's 84th minute. Pritchard got loose in front of the SWOSU goal and was sent a crisp pass from teammate Katy Lukert for the score.

The tough loss put SWOSU in a must-win scenario in its upcoming two matches if hopes are for qualification in the Lone Star Conference post-season tournament.. The Bulldogs are now 6-10-1 on the year and 3-5 in league play while MSU improved to 11-2-2 and 5-2 in the league.

SWOSU picked up its offensive tempo after a slow first half when the Bulldogs only attempted two shots on the MSU goal. The Bulldogs had five attempts in the second half to finish the game with seven. MSU ended with 25 shots, 12 in the first half and 13 in the second half.

SWOSU's best opportunity came midway in the second half when Stephanie Kneedler sent a through ball to Courtney Lindsey. Lindsey gave chase but was unable to track it down in what most likely would have been a sure goal.

The Bulldogs will next play Friday, Oct. 30 against Texas Woman's University. Game time is at 4 p.m. in Weatherford.
