CANYON, TX - The Southwestern Oklahoma State University women's soccer team fell short in its upset bid of West Texas A&M losing 4-0 Sunday in Canyon, Texas. The Bulldogs were hoping to get back in the win column after a tough overtime loss two days earlier at Eastern New Mexico by a 1-0 score.
SWOSU, now 3-8-1 overall and 0-3 in the Lone Star Conference, returns home for the first time in nearly four weeks as the Bulldogs host Abilene Christian on Thursday at 4 p.m.
In the WTAM game, SWOSU stumbled out of the starting gate and played from behind most of the way. The Buffs got a goal by Lindsey McHorse in the ninth minute and made it 2-0 a minute later on a goal by Reem Moussa.
WTAM added to its cushion with a goal in the 34th minute by Taylor Creemens and another in the 85th minute by Becky Hewson.
SWOSU only got four shots off against the Buffs defense, three of which were in the second half. Meanwhile, WTAM countered with 14 shots against two different Bulldog goalkeepers.
In the ENMU game Friday, Danielle Thurman's goal four minutes into overtime was the game winner. Thurman's score came off a corner kick that rebounded in her direction in front of the goal.
Both ENMU and SWOSU played on even terms throughout the match. ENMU with 11 shots, one more than SWOSU's 10 shot attempts.
