Soccer loses to UCO

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University closed its home portion of its 2008 soccer schedule with a tough 7-1 loss to the University of Central Oklahoma Friday in Weatherford.

The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 2-16 overall and 0-9 in the Lone Star Conference. UCO improved to 12-5-3 and 6-3-1. SWOSU will conclude its season Sunday at Midwestern State in Wichita Falls, Texas.

UCO scored its first four goals within the opening eight minutes of the game and were in control from that point on. Meghan Saliba and Katy Kashwer each scored two goals in that frame as the Bronchos took a 6-0 lead into the break.

SWOSU played much better in the second half and squared the Bronchos at 1-1 over the final 45 minutes. Lorina Salinas scored in the game’s 84th minute as the Bulldogs avoided the shutout. The goal for Salinas was her fifth of the season. She has scored five of the team’s nine total goals this year.

SWOSU also got good play from goalkeeper Chelsey Dodd in the second half as she allowed just one goal while being peppered by 22 shot attempts. Dodd came up with 13 saves, some of them the spectacular variety.

UCO ended up with 37 shot attempts, 24 of which were on goal. SWOSU had 13, four of which were on goal.
