WEATHERFORD, Okla. Southwestern Oklahoma State University did what it wanted on the field but the result it hoped for never materialized as the Bulldogs were beaten 1-0 by Eastern New Mexico in women’s soccer action Sunday at Weatherford.

The loss dropped SWOSU to 2-11 on the season and kept the Bulldogs winless in the Lone Star Conference at 0-4. ENMU improved to 8-6 overall and 2-3 in league play.

ENMU scored the game’s only goal when Alicia Cunningham broke free from a crowd of players thanks to a long pass by teammate Kimberly Luna. Cunningham then was able to beat the SWOSU goalkeeper with a nifty one-on-one move and the Zias were ahead 1-0 in the 23rd minute.

SWOSU had a much better game offensively than the Zias. SWOSU outshot ENMU 11-7 and were only held scoreless thanks to a couple of unlucky bounces.

Courtney Hailey sent a rocket shot that ricochet of the left post in the game’s 75th minute. A few minutes later Elyse Berta sailed one that bounded off the crossbar downwards but missed crossing the goal line by just inches.
