Soccer Ready for Home Opener

September 7, 2008

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University will welcome the return to its home field for the first time this season as the Bulldogs are set to play Newman University in a soccer game Friday, Sept. 12. The contest is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

The Bulldogs are 1-3 on the season and are in need of a fortune reversal. SWOSU dropped back-to-back games against two Missouri foes over the weekend. The games were played on the campus of the University of Central Oklahoma. SWOSU was beat 7-2 by Central Missouri on Friday and then humbled by unbeaten Truman State by a 7-1 score on Sunday.

SWOSU’s lone score against Truman came in the game’s 71st minute when Lorina Salinas dribbled in and beat the keeper with a nifty one-on-one move. The goal was Salinas’s third of the season. She has scored three of the team’s four goals this year, and has a three-game goal streak.

Truman had 34 sprayed shots at two SWOSU goalkeepers, 21 of them were on goal. SWOSU managed just one shot, Salinas’ goal scorer, against the otherwise stingy Truman defense.

Newman will bring a 0-2-2 record into the contest. The Lady Jets and SWOSU have one common opponent, Wayne State of Nebraska. SWOSU beat Wayne State 1-0 while the Jets played them to a 1-1 tie earlier this year
