Women Place 2nd at Garden City

GARDEN CITY, Kans. - Southwestern Oklahoma State University finished second in a close battle for the top spot at the Garden City Community College Rodeo. The Bulldogs finished with 240 points, just behind eventual winner Northwestern Oklahoma State University who totaled 275 points. Western Oklahoma State College and Oklahoma Panhandle State University each shared third-place with 230 points.
SWOSU moved up one spot in the Central Plains Regional Standings thanks to their second-place finish. NWOSU continues to hold the top spot followed by OPSU in second.
Cally Cummings won her second straight breakaway roping competition at the Garden City event and took over the lead in the regional standings. She tied for first in the long run with a time of 2.3 seconds. She then split second and third in the short run to finish first in the average.
Teammate Lori Tierney also advanced in the breakaway roping event but did not score in the average.
Tierney scored well in the goat tying event. She placed third in the short round and ended up second in the average. Weatherford's Amy Outhier also scored points in the event by placing sixth in the short round. She did not score in the average.
SWOSU will next compete March 13 at the Fort Scott Community College Rodeo.
