Women Place 6th at K-State

MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Southwestern Oklahoma State University started its 2009 spring season in impressive fashion with a second-place finish at the Kansas State Rodeo. SWOSU collected 215 points and finished behind Southeastern Oklahoma State University who garnered 345 points. Kansas State, the event's host, finished third with 175 points.
Cally Cummings was the big winner for the SWOSU team finishing first in the breakaway roping event. She split second-third-and-fourth in the long run with a time of 2.5 seconds and was alone in second in the short run with a 3.0 clocking. The two times were good enough for her to win the average.
Teammate Riley Drury finished fourth in the average in breakaway roping with a fifth-place effort in both the long and short run.
Weatherford freshman Amy Outhier again did well finishing fourth in both the barrel racing and goat tying events. Outhier won the short round of the goat tying with a time of 6.5 seconds which allowed her to finish in a two-way tie for third in the average. She placed fourth in the short round in barrel racing and was fourth in the average.
SWOSU also got points from Brittany Wiedel who had a pair of fifth-place finishes in the goat tying event in both the long and short round. She finished fifth in the average.
SWOSU will next compete at the Garden City Community College which gets underway Feb. 27.
