Men Finish Third at Colby

COLBY, KAN. - The Southwestern Oklahoma State University men's rodeo team opened up its 2009 fall season with a third-place finish. The Bulldogs were among a dozen teams that competed at the Colby Community College Rodeo held recently in Colby, Kan.
SWOSU finished with 250 points in a tightly bunched field with Southeastern Oklahoma State winning the event with 305 points. Oklahoma Panhandle State was second with 280.
The big point producer for SWOSU was Cody Teel who swept the bareback riding competition winning both the long and short rounds with rides of 72 and 76.
SWOSU also had good showing in steer wrestling from Greg Schaffeld who finished first in the average after a second-place time in the long round and a third-place effort in the short round. Teammate Cody Shelly finished fifth in the average after placing fourth in the short round and fifth in the long round.
One other cowboy, Jarrod Branch, scored points at the Colby event. Branch placed fifth in the long round of the calf roping competition.
SWOSU's next rodeo begins Oct. 2 at Pratt Community College.
