Men Finish 11th at ACU

ABILENE, Texas - Southwestern Oklahoma State University matched its opening round 294 with the same score Tuesday completing the Charles Coody/West Texas Intercollegiate Golf Tournament in 11th place. The Bulldogs finished the tournament with a 588 team score, ahead of Lone Star Conference rivals East Central University and West Texas A&M.
Newman University won the team title defeating Texas Wesleyan in a playoff. Both schools finished the tournament tied at 570, six-under par. Midwestern State finished third one stroke back at 571 while Cameron was fourth two strokes back at 572. St. Mary's was fifth with a 574 and Abilene Christian, the host school was seventh with a 577. A total of 15 teams competed in the two-day, 36-hole tournament.
ACU freshman Adam Carpenter won the individual title on the fourth playoff hole. Carpenter finished with a four-under 138 along with Drew Koonce of Texas Wesleyan and Chad Bryant of Midwestern State.
Brad Leeper and Dakota Brown were SWOSU's top finishers as each golfer placed in a tie for 27th. They both shot identical rounds of 74-71 to finish at 145, three-over par. Ben Claussen finished 34th with a 71-75-146, four-over par; Jordan Hudson was 60th with a 75-78-153; 11-over par and Rob Bennett was 64th with a 79-77-156, 14-over par.
The Bulldogs will next be in action Sept. 21-22 at the Territory Classic in Duncan.
