Golfers Finish 6th at St. Ed's

AUSTIN, Texas - Southwestern Oklahoma State University was unable to maintain its grip on second place and tumbled four spots to finish sixth after the final round of play at the St. Edward's Invitational. The Bulldogs, who began the day five strokes out of first, shot a 319 under very windy conditions at the Grey Rock Golf Course in Austin, Texas and finished with a 54-hole total of 930.
Dallas Baptist kept its hold on the top spot by shooting a 301 as a team to win the event with a 908, 13 shots ahead of the second-place hosts, St. Edward's. A total of 13 teams competed in the field including three other schools from the Lone Star Conference. Texas A&M-Commerce was fourth with a 927, Abilene Christian was ninth with a 940, and East Central was 12th with a 965.
SWOSU senior Luke Phillips was the top Bulldog golfer in the event finishing in third place out of a field of 72 golfers. Phillips turned in rounds of 71-76-77 to finish with a 224, nine shots off the pace set by St. Edward's Santiago Quintero who played the 54-holes in a two-over par score of 215.
Other SWOSU golfers and their finish are as follows: Scott Kulczycki was 20th with a 75-75-84 for a 234; Dakota Brown was 33rd with a 79-79-79 for a 237; Ben Claussen was 49th with a 78-80-83 for a 241; and Kyle Collier was 53rd with a 84-78-80 for a 242.
The Bulldogs will next play March 2 at the Texas A&M-Commerce Invitational.
