X-Country Finishes 9th at LSC

CANYON, Texas - Southwestern Oklahoma State University raced in its final cross country meet of the season placing ninth in the Lone Star Conference championship held Saturday in Canyon, Texas.

The Bulldogs finished with 207 points and beat Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M-Commerce in the 11-team field. Midwestern State won the women's crown for the second straight season behind the strength of Sydney Cole who was the top finisher in the meet. Cole covered the six-kilometer course in a time of 23:02, 34 seconds better than Erica Alvarado of Texas A&M-Kingsville who placed second.

Chelsey Dillon was the top SWOSU finisher placing 10th with a time of 24:27. Dillon was recognized as an all-conference selection thanks to her 10th place finish. A total of 83 runners competed in the event.

MSU placed just ahead of Angelo State with a 70-point team total compared to 73 by ASU. The Mustangs had four runners finishing 18th or better, but none in the top 10 other than Cole. ASU had two runners placing eighth or better but their fifth place runner was 26th.

East Central University was third with 92 points followed by Central Oklahoma with 111. West Texas A&M, the host school, was fifth with 123 points and Tarleton State was sixth with 171 points.

Other SWOSU runners and their finish are as follows: Sarah Hix was 290th with a time of 25:51, Tatum Hoffman was 45th with a time of 26:12, Carrisa Curtis was 56th with a time of 26:58; Micah Mathis was 64th with a time of 27:32, Lisa Garza was 70th with a time of 27:54; Melissa Banks was 76th with a time of 29:07.
