Dillon Wins 2nd Meet

CANYON, Texas - Southwestern Oklahoma State University's budding cross country star Chelsey Dillon turned in another winning performance capturing the West Texas A&M Buffalo Stampede at the university's horse center track Saturday in Canyon, Texas.

Dillon, a freshman from Mabank, Texas, ran the five-kilometer race in a time of 20:13, an astonishing 20 seconds faster than her nearest competitor Nicky Ried of Eastern New Mexico. A total of 58 runners competed in the event. The race was Dillon's second straight win after last week taking the Central Oklahoma Land Run in convincing fashion.

SWOSU had a strong showing as a team placing second in the nine-team field and having two runners - Dillon and Sarah Hix (21:33) - finishing in the top eight. The Bulldogs had 60 points, just behind eventual winner Eastern New Mexico who had 49. WTAM, the host school was third with 82 points while Texas A&M-Commerce was fourth with 111 points. University of Texas-Permian Basin was fifth with 112 points and Southeastern Oklahoma State University was sixth with 126 points.

Other SWOSU runners and their times are as follows: Tatum Hoffman in 14th with a time of 21:59; Patty Murphy in 18th with a time of 22:18; Melissa Banks in 19th with a time of 22:25; Carissa Curtis in 32nd with a time of 23:14; Micah Mathis in 40th with a time of 23:47; Lisa Garza in 41st with a time of 24:18 and  Brittany Strickland in 44th with a time of 24:53.

SWOSU's next race will be Sept. 19 at the Missouri Southern Stampede in Joplin, Mo.
