Fan Jam set for OCt. 22

October 7, 2009

WEATHERFORD, Okla. - Fan Jam, the wild and rowdy celebration that marks the beginning of Southwestern Oklahoma State University's basketball season, will take place Thursday, Oct. 22 beginning at 7 p.m. Admission is free and doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

KWEY radio personalities will be on hand during the day to assist in the event's promotion.

This year's grand prize will be a car given to one lucky audience member who wins their way through a basketball-styled competition against other randomly-picked contestants. As always, the popular "Fan Jam T-shirts" and dozens of other prizes and items will be given away to students, faculty, staff and community expected to squeeze into the gymnasium.

In addition $200 cash will be awarded to the SWOSU student organization judged to have the most spirit and participation. Each organization competing for the cash must also successfully complete a specially-designed obstacle course planned for the night.

The popular event, now in its 11th year, showcases the SWOSU men's and women's basketball teams in a variety of events and contests. Some of which will include a three-point shooting game and a dunk contest with university faculty and administrators serving as honorary judges.

Special performances will also be given by the SWOSU Cheerleading and Pom Pon squads. In addition, the SWOSU "Wild Dawg" Pep Band will perform a few selected numbers and the SWOSU Drum Line returns again after wowing last year's crowd with a lengthy and loud percussion jam.
