Women Beat Paul Quinn

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University took a while but once it turned up the defensive intensity Paul Quinn University wilted as the Bulldogs took an easy 81-60 in a women’s basketball game Friday in Weatherford. The victory was SWOSU’s first of the year while PQU dropped to 1-5 with the loss.

Jennifer DeGarmo had 20 points and Lucy Ramon added 16 points to lead the Bulldogs. Jenna Sprague and Allie Burdan scored 10 apiece to complete the double figure scoring. The Bulldogs ended up winning by 19 points after leading by just five points in the first half.

PQU stayed in the game early thanks to their remarkable marksmanship from three-point range in the first half. The Tigers made seven-of-18 treys in the first 20 minutes but misfired on all 12 long-distance attempts in the second half.

SWOSU outscored Paul Quinn 25-7 over the first 13 minutes of the second half and found themselves in front 66-45 with 7:13 to play when Sprague scored underneath.

SWOSU had a lead as many as 25 points before settling for the 21-point cushion.

The Bulldogs ended the game making 28-of-62 shots for 42% while PQU also shot 42% making 23-of-69 shots. The main difference came on the rebounding end where the Bulldogs out rebounded PQU by a 50-37 margin.
