Women Upend Tulsa, 50-47
November 8, 2008
TULSA, Okla. – The Southwestern Oklahoma State University women sent a clear message that this edition of Bulldog basketball will be one to be reckoned with. SWOSU picked off the University of Tulsa on the Golden Hurricane’s home court when Jennifer DeGarmo canned a three-pointer with one second to play for a 50-47 win.
The game did not count for either team’s records because of its exhibition status. However, beating a NCAA Division I team on their home court should go a long way to creating some extra confidence for the Bulldogs when they begin the regular season in two weeks.
DeGarmo, a sophomore transfer from Wichita Sate, led all scorers with 19 points on six-of-13 shooting, including five-of-nine from three-point range.
SWOSU led much of the game but did have to rally after falling behind by 35-30 with 9:30 to play in the game. The Bulldogs managed to pull back in front on a pair of free throws by DeGarmo at 41-40 with 4:30 to play.
Lucy Ramon, who finished with seven points, had a basket and Allie Burdan hit a clutch three-point late to keep the Bulldogs in front.
Jenna Sprague had 10 points to join DeGarmo in double figure scoring for the Bulldogs.
Chanell Johnson and Larissa Williams had 11 points to lead Tulsa in scoring.
SWOSU will next play at home Monday, Nov. 17 against the Oklahoma Flyers in an exhibition game. Game time is at 7 p.m.
