February 9, 2009
RICHARDSON, Texas - Honors continue to pour in for Southwestern Oklahoma State University's surging men's basketball team with the selection of yet another player as the Lone Star Conference's North Division Player-of-the-Week.
Clarke Hale, a senior guard from Azle, Texas, was the latest Bulldog to receive the honor after averaging 25 points in two games against Texas A&M-Commerce. Hale is the second SWOSU player to receive the league's weekly honor. Teammates Jerard Campbell and Kendall Smith have won it previously. No other North division team has had more than two winners this year.
For the week, Hale made 15-of-27 attempts from the field for 55%, including a salty 71% from three-point distance making 12-of-17. He was a perfect eight-for-eight from the free throw line. Hale scored a career-best 31 points in a pulsating 81-76 overtime victory Saturday, including SWOSU's first five points in the extra session.
Hale has upped his season scoring average to 13.4 points per game for the Bulldogs who stand with a 14-8 overall record. He ranks third in the entire LSC in three-point accuracy making better than 45% of his attempts.
Hale and his Bulldog teammates will have an important game Wednesday against a rapidly improving Cameron team in Lawton. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
