SWOSU Extends CMSU Before Losing, 84-73

Warrensburg, MO - Southwestern Oklahoma State put a serious scare into nationally-ranked Central Missouri State before falling 84-73 in men’s basketball action Thursday at Warrensburg, Mo.

Reggie Gunn (6-2, Jr., G, Okolona, Miss.) scored a season-high 24 points and led the upstart Bulldogs to a 42-39 halftime lead after knocking home a three-pointer at the half buzzer. Gunn’s basket completed an impressive rally by the Bulldogs that saw them erase a 14-point, first-half deficit.

The Bulldogs were down 21-7 before catching fire. Gunn scored back-to-back baskets and Lonnie Cooks (5-10, Sr., G, Fort Worth) drilled a three-pointer to help SWOSU on a 22-8 run to tie the game at 29-29.

The (11-1) Mules began to flex their muscle in the second half using their size advantage. CMSU tied the game in the opening seconds of the second half and never looked back. The Mules biggest lead was 18 at 79-61 with 5:12 to play.

The Mules were led by Michael Hicks with 25 points while teammate Wadale Williams added 24.

Gunn was joined in double figures by Cooks with 16 and Jon Gunn (6-6, Sr., F, Parker, Colo.) with 10.
