Wayne Anderson returns for his second season as the assistant men’s basketball coach at Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
Anderson, 26, spent three successful years at the University of Central Oklahoma, where he along with head coach Terry Evans, helped the Bronchos to a 65-27 record that included back-to-back 20-win seasons. In 2008, UCO team finished 28-6, won the LSC Championship and advanced to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight for the first time since 1992.
Anderson was a prep basketball standout at Cornerstone Christian Academy in Tulsa, leading the Warriors to back-to-back Class A state championships. A three-time All-State selection, Anderson graduated from Cornerstone Christian as the school’s all-time leading scorer.
He went on to play two seasons at Northern Oklahoma College-Enid before returning to Cornerstone Christian Academy as the varsity girls head basketball coach. Anderson guided the Lady Warriors for one season before returning back to the college ranks. In his only season at Cornerstone, he led the Lady Warriors to their best season in school history (15-12)
At UCO, Anderson was responsible for several duties including; recruiting, coaching on the floor scouting, film exchange, equipment and travel. During his three years at UCO, Anderson helped coach a NCAA Division II All-American (Sam Belt) and two other All-Region players.
He has an associate’s degree in general studies from Northern Oklahoma College-Enid (2003) and a bachelor’s degree in general education from the UCO (2007). Anderson will complete his master’s of education degree from UCO in December 2008.
