Cordell All-Stater Joins SWOSU

WEATHERFORD - Cordell All-stater Tyler Overton is the latest signee expected to join the Southwestern Oklahoma State University baseball team for the 2010 season.
Overton, a 6-6 right-handed pitcher/first baseman, was recently selected to the Small West All-State baseball team and will play at the Oklahoma All-State game Monday, July 27 in Tulsa at J.L. Johnson Stadium on the campus of Oral Roberts University.
This season Overton led the Blue Devils both on the mound and at the plate. He hit .554 in 74 plate appearances with four home runs and 36 RBIs. As a pitcher he threw 54 innings and compiled an ERA of 1.17.
"We are excited about Tyler. He is a big kid with a big upside," Coach Scott Selby said. "I expect him to come in and get a lot of playing time and help us get to where we want to be."
"I am really proud of Tyler," Cordell High School coach Bobby Blackburn said. ""He is an outstanding
baseball player who is very deserving of these honors. I'm just as proud that he will represent Cordell with an outstanding attitude, respect, and dedication in all that he does."
Overton is the son of Brad and Chrystal Overton. He plans on pursuing a degree in SWOSU's renowned pharmacy program when school begins in August.
