Baseball Wins 30th Game

April 28, 2009

WEATHERFORD, Okla. - Southwestern Oklahoma State University reached the 30-win mark following a doubleheader sweep of Hillsdale Free Will Bible College by scores of 22-0 and 7-4. The wins allowed SWOSU to finish the year with a 30-25 record and mark the most wins since the 1998 squad won 31 games.

SWOSU's easy sweep of the visiting Saints provided little drama as the Bulldogs overpowered the visitors in just about every possible way on their way to racking up a number of school records, including the largest margin of victory.

In the opener, senior Chris Morrison put on quite a show at the plate going three-for-four with six RBIs, including a homer, a double and a triple. He was one of nine different Bulldogs who collected at least one hit in the game.

Kevin Hyde got the win on the mound pitching four innings and allowing just one hit. He struck out three and walked two to improve his record to 4-6 on the year.

In the second game, SWOSU took the lead for good in the bottom of the second when Alex Pagan hit an RBI single to put the Bulldogs ahead 3-2.

Travis Rose followed with his record-setting 18th homer in the sixth helping the Bulldogs to a 7-4 lead.

Senior Adam Phillips, pitching in his final ballgame, got the win on the mound. Phillips allowed just one hit in three innings of work and finished the year with a 2-0 record.
