Violence Intervention, Prevention and Early Response

The Violence Intervention, Prevention and Early Response (VIPER) Program at Southwestern is a partner on East Central University’s Regional University System of Oklahoma (RUSO) Violence Prevention Project. It is made possible by a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women and is designed to minimize the incidence of violent relational crime such as sexual assault, intimate partner violence/abuse, and stalking on SWOSU’s campus.

The VIPER program will work with community agencies and the other student services departments on campus to maximize the effectiveness of victim resources and to provide efficient information sharing and emergency response.

VIPER is:

  • Designed to augment SWOSU’s student services including Campus Safety, Health and Counseling Services, Office of Underrepresented Students, Dean of Students, etc….
  • An educational program designed to develop men and women committed to healthy relationships and boundaries…
  • A program committed to providing a cohesive response system to provide appropriate care to all SWOSU community members who are survivors of sexual assault, intimate partner violence/abuse, and stalking…
  • Committed to creating an environment at Southwestern Oklahoma State University that will not tolerate violent relational crimes.
